Hands Press
Branding + Illustration
Hands Press was a Brooklyn newspaper focused on local art and culture. I designed the brand logos and illustrated a monthly section named Mirrorbelly — a visual storytelling column defined by a monthly theme.
Why Mirrorbelly?
In some casual research about the deep sea -- as one does -- I stumbled upon the Mirrorbelly. The Mirrorbelly is a recently discovered species of bioluminescent fish found in most deep tropical and subtropical oceans and seas. These fish have a light-controlling organ on their underside which is thought to be how they communicate amidst the deep dark depths of the sea. The fish is a little terrifying, but I love the idea of being in control of your own light shining out into the world.
